MSE HOSTS A FACEBOOK LIVE EVENT ON HOW TO INVEST IN BONDS

On 21st June, 2023, the Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) conducted a live Facebook event under the theme, “Investing in Bonds on the Malawi Stock Exchange”. The Facebook live event is part of the Exchanges strategy of raising awareness of the opportunities that are available to the public for investments. The webinar brought together three experts from stockbroking firms namely Mr. Makwakwa from Stockbrokers Malawi Limited, Mrs. Mwawa from Continental Capital Limited, and Mrs. Kachingwe from Cedar Capital Limited. The presenters shared knowledge and insight on what bonds are, how one can invest in bonds, and the benefits and risks of investing in bonds.

The MSE currently trades two types of securities namely; shares and bonds. Whilst relatively more people are aware of shares, it has been observed that most people are not aware of how to invest in bonds. As such, the MSE hosted the webinar to bring awareness on bonds and to enlighten the investing public that bonds are a great asset to add to their portfolio. There are currently 58 listed Government bonds on the Malawi Stock Exchange in which the public can invest in. The minimum amount to invest is only K1,000.00

The webinar ended with a question-and-answer session where participants were given an opportunity to interact with the stockbrokers who responded to their questions.

Presentations can be accessed on the Malawi Stock Exchange Facebook page or by visiting the MSE website: www.mse.co.mw
