The Capital Markets Association of Malawi (CMAM) successfully hosted its inaugural CMAM Conference 2024 on Friday, 6 December 2024, at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel, Blantyre. The conference was held under the theme "Capital markets for economic recovery and sustainable finance” which brought together stakeholders, policymakers and industry experts to discuss the role of capital markets in driving sustainable economic growth.
The conference began with welcoming remarks by Mr. John Robson Kamanga, CMAM President and CEO of the Malawi Stock Exchange, followed by an address from Prof. James Kamwachale Khomba, Chairman of the Malawi Stock Exchange.
Presentations included:
• "ESG Landscape in Africa & Launch of Sustainable Bond Guidelines" by Mrs. Kelline Kondowe, Chief Operating Officer of the Malawi Stock Exchange.
• "Capital Markets & ATM Strategy: What Needs to Be Done – BHL Experience" by Mr. David Moyo, Chief Investment Officer of NICO Capital Limited.
• "Sustainability Reporting: Overview of S1 and S2" by Mr. Christopher Kapenda, Managing Partner at Deloitte.
After the presentations, a vibrant Q&A session allowed participants to engage with the speakers, ask questions and exchange insights. The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Noel Kadza-kumanja, Vice President of CMAM and CEO of Stockbrokers Mala-wi Limited, who emphasized the importance of collaboration in strengthening Malawi’s capital markets. The success of this confer-ence marked an important step in fostering sustainable growth and innovation in the sector.
